When I was a kid, I remember a lot of days when I used to say the word BORE ADIKKUDHU, which means I was feeling bored(litteral meaning: Boredom was hitting me), and my Amma would mockingly reply THIRUPPI ADI, which means to hit it back!
But I realised, that it has been years since I uttered such a phrase and when I was thinking about when I last said such a phrase, I could not recollect any day after the smartphone had come into active usage. I remember that we got our first smartphone when I was 10, and I got mine when I was supposed to enter college, that is when I was 18, but I started using it more during my 11th and 12th grade itself, until that it was more of educational stuff, I had a reason to surf about something that I was interested about, but once the idea of the SHORTS got introduced on YouTube, I guess it has taken a major part of my life. Only few months back I created my Instagram handle, before which I was unaware of the REELS either.
So the whole idea behind this blog is that, we are too much into "entertainment", I see people plugged in with ear pods everywhere, even during the classes. Why I myself, wear my neckband play some song just to fetch water from the ground floor, I am not even ready to pause the entertainment for a while, I want to remain entertained always so that I don't feel the difficulty of whatever work I am doing. I don't know if it's a bad thing but yeah, during those 2-3 minutes of walk to the water point I encounter a lot of people, just smile at them and so do they, if I hadn't had a song playing, may be I would have had a two line conversation with them, which would have built my social skills.
Now there is no chance of feeling bored, we always have something or the other to watch or listen to in our phones, we need not even browse what we need , we need not even THINK of what we are want to see, and just watch some random SHORTS or REELS.
So is this a good thing, keeping oneself entertained always? I realised that I am scared that I will feel bored if I don't listen to music, but I also realised that I hardly listen to what is being played and think of something else...then why should I even play it? I really don't know if this is going the right way but all I want to do is , step back a little from the entertainment I derive from my phone. The so called "SOCIAL" media, is infact reducing ones real time social skills.
Remaining entertained isn't bad at all, but the right kind of entertainment matters. Entertainment that develops ones skills, it could be singing, learning to play an instrument, blogging etc Learning a new language by watching a movie is totally fine, that is infact the a wise idea to get entertainment as well as enlightenment.(About the language)
The entertainment of this sort will develop ones personality. Shorts and reels were created to deliver some piece of information precisely, it is being used the right way by the content creators, but we the viewers are lost into it.
