For the past one month I have been obsessed with picking eco friendly alternatives for everything I do. I wanted to share some interesting ones with you.
Firstly, GIVING
A THOUGHT ON BUYING USED BOOKS OVER NEW ONES.
So, I needed
a novel and I know that e books are the eco friendliest option but when we
really need a paperback experience, I would suggest buying used books or 2nd
hand books instead of new books thereby contributing to afforestation. When a
book is not purchased fresh and it doesn’t go out of stock, new copies will not
be printed, thereby saving paper, and not cutting trees. Printing a book also needs
other energy requirements in the printing press which can also be conserved,
when more than one person reads the same book is more efficiently used, when I type
this I suddenly get this idea of “LIBRARIES” BEING SUCH AN ECO FRIENDLY
CONTRIBUTIONS OF ALL TIME, the same book is read by multiple people and is best
used.
Second thing
that I picked up was A FOUNTAIN PEN OVER BALL PEN/GEL PEN
Being a
college student I had to buy a lot of ball pens and used it for everything I write,
I was also used to writing journals. So, basically, I write a lot and needed a
new ball pen every week, initially I thought of buying refills but even they
contained plastic, so I thought fountain pens would be a better option to get
rid of some plastic from our everyday lives. Ball pens are more convenient, but
fountain pens are more satisfying and gives a good writing experience once we
get a hang over it, initially it was tempting to use ball pen at times, but
considering the good deed of contributing to the environment friendliness its
highly satisfying. I won’t say that I will never buy a ball pen again, in many
competitive exams its compulsory to use only ball pens but I can limit the use
of ball pens by using it only when its compulsory.
Third is THE
IDEA OF USING A WOODEN TOOTHBRUSH OVER PLASTIC ONES
Wooden
tooth brushes are highly affordable and easy to adopt, the only thing that
needs attention is it must be drained properly after using, if not fungus might
inhabit. But in this I still have a doubt we can reduce plastic usage, but
deforestation has to happen to support this measure.
But then I got
to know about the bamboo ones.
Also, with
respect to paper, I have heard that TNPL-TAMIL NADU PAPER LIMITED, used sugarcane
husk to produce paper and tress need not be cut.
When I think
of plastic and wooden brush would convince myself to pick the wooden one cause
its natural and as long as we abide to the rules of the mother nature by not
introducing new plastic which it is not able to degrade, we are safe and
healthy.
So, I have
incorporated these three new eco friendly measures in my life for the past one
month and it works for me. I hope that these were new ideas for you to lead an
eco-friendly life too.
